Subject Verb Agreement বিভিন্ন ভর্তি পরীক্ষার জন্য খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ একটি বিষয়। এ বিষয়ের কিছু Rule উল্লেখ করছি যা আপনাদেরকে পরীক্ষায় সাহায্য করবে বলে আমার বিশ্বাস।
Rule 1:
কোনো Subject কে বিশেষায়িত করার জন্য বা অতিরিক্ত কিছু বলার জন্য যে সমস্ত words বা group of words ব্যবহার করা হয়ে থাকে তাই নামই মডিফায়ার। Modifier কখনোই বাক্যের Verb এর উপর প্রভাব ফেলে না। বাক্যের Verb সবসময় বাক্য অনুযায়ী/বাক্যের মূলশব্দ/Noun অনুসারে হবে।
যেমন:
1. The cooking of delicious vegetables (is) not (easier) a task as (--) American trends (believe).
- is, as easy, the typical, to believe.
Rule 2:
Not—but, not only—but also, either—or, neither—nor এর প্রথম অংশ দিয়ে কোনো বাক্যে দুটি সাবজেক্টকে যুক্ত করা হলে শব্দ জোড়ার ২য় অংশ অর্থাৎ but, but also ইত্যাদির পরে যে Subject থাকে, verb কে তাঁর সাথেই agree করতে হয়।
যেমন:
1. Not the toll but also the misery of people (know) no bound.

Rule 3:
Collective noun বাক্যের subject হলে এবং সম্মিলিতভাবে কাজ করলে verb টি singular হবে। কিন্তু কালেকশনের সবাই একা একা কাজ করলে verb টি এবং subject টি উভয়েই plural হয়।
যেমন:
1. The Jury (is) arguing.

Rule 4:
একটি বাক্যে রিলেটিভ Pronoun (who, whose…) থাকলে সেক্ষেত্রে antecedent অনুযায়ী verb হয়।
যেমন:
1. This is the book that everyone is talking about.
2. I have a friend whose dog is annoying,
Rule 5:
কোনো বাক্যে There বা Here যদি থাকে এবং তা দিয়েই যদি বাক্য শুরু হয় তবে সেক্ষেত্রে verb সিঙ্গুলার নাকি প্লুরাল হবে না নির্ভর করে পরবর্তী verb এর subject উপরে।

1. Here (be) the information that I promised you last year.
